Trip to Sacred Heart Apostolic School (round 2) Day 2

The kids woke up early this morning to begin another fun day of activities and growing in their relationship with Christ.  The day started as 6:15 this morning and the kids were there for 7AM mass. After Pancakes with mint chocolate chips and bacon the kids were ready for another fun day.  We started the day of by Fr. Daren leading the boys in a morning meditation down in the crypt under where the main church is here at the school.  It was a beautiful setting for an inspiring talk by Fr. Daren to challenge the kids to become the saints that God made them to be.  After spending time with Christ the boys and dads were all set to go skiing when we found out that they closed the ski place for the year yesterday so we had to go with Plan B.

We decided on a trip to Chicago instead of skiing.  Father Daren gave the boys the message and they were very excited.  We got a cooler full of drinks and goodies prepared for our trip and we left for Chicago.  After multiple games of mafia on the bus we arrived in Chicago around 11AM.  We decided to have some snacks right on the shore of lake Michigan and look out over the beautiful Chicago downtown view.  After our snack we headed off to the Shedd Aquarium.  We got to see lots of colorful fish and underwater animals of all kinds.  We spent about two hours going around the place before the kids were complaining about being hungry.

Father Daren suggested a great pizza place for lunch called Giordanos.  We didn't realize when leaving the aquarium that we were in for about a 3 mile walk.  The boys were complaining but the pizza was well worth it.  We ordered 3 deep dish pizzas and the wait was 45 minutes.  Brother Jerek and Father Daren kept the boys entertained with a game of ghost while we were waiting for our food. When the pizza arrived we were all very hungry and needless to say there was not a crumb left.  The pizza was fantastico.

We made our 3 mile walk back to the van and had a short stop at a neat new playground in downtown Chicago.  We let the kids spend about 10 minutes there before trying to get back so we could leave right before 5PM.  On the ride back we prayed the rosary and the boys took a quick nap.  They did get to play one quick game of mafia before arriving back to the Apostolic school.

We then had a quick prayer with Jesus thanking him for the day before brother Jerek and the boys had a quick snowball fight.  The boys then got ready to meet the apostolics.  They got to hear all about life at the seminary.  They asked lots of great questions and learned a lot about what it is like to be at the apostolic school.

We are now playing some athletic games to finish tiring out the kids for the day.  We will then get the kids cleaned up and finish our day with night prayers.  The kids should sleep very well.  It was another great day and we have been very blessed.  More to come tomorrow......
