Happy Saint Patrick's day to all enjoying our blog. We had a very blessed feast day here.
It was another full day at the Sacred Heart Apostolic School. Today began bright and early again at 6:15 in the morning with a wake up call for the boys. They were in the chapel for 7:00 a.m. Mass which was celebrated by all 3 priests: Fr. Ronald, Fr. Daren, and Fr. Thomas. After Mass the boys had a breakfast that included a scrambled eggs and bacon mix with cereal. The breakfast was followed by a morning meditation by Fr. Daren in the crypt. Fr. Daren talked to the boys about putting their selfishness behind them and choosing to put Jesus and others first in our lives. He told them that is where they will find true happiness. He gave the boys some concrete examples of how Christ has worked in his life and how he has been happiest when he has focused on serving him and doing for others. The boys all made a resolution for the day to improve in one way in this area.
Next we began a lot of activities. The day started with hunger games dodge ball followed by regular dodge ball. Then the boys went to the game room and had some fun with ping pong, pool, monopoly, and other games. Some of the kids assisted Fr. Daren with his March Madness basketball bracket, I am sure that one will be a winner. :) At around 10:30 when the apostolics and pre-candidates take a break the boys went to their 'Tiendita' - Little Store - to get snacks and drinks to eat while the apostolics were watching some sports highlights for their break. You will see the boys enjoying the break with them and the snacks. When the apostolics went back to school the boys went off to play more games in the game room for a few more minutes before the big scavenger hunt began. The scavenger hunt went from about noon to 1:00 p.m. The boys were split into two teams and they had a lot to find and everybody from the group needed to be in the picture to get credit for the items. Some of the things on the list included; a picture with the dogs, a picture in front of the sign, a picture with everybody on a tractor, a picture dunking a basketball, a picture of the biggest snowball, and many more challenging finds. It was a race to the finish and both teams did a great job. There was some debating over whether some of the pictures met all the qualifications so the winner is still in debate but the kids had a great time.
After all of this activity, it was time to eat again so the boys headed to lunch for great corn beef and cabbage sandwiches. After the lunch the boys went in the Chapel to visit Jesus and do Stations of the Cross with Brother Jerek. Then it was back to more running. We went back to the gym to play a game of Soccer followed by Azteca with the dads and sons. It was tough fought game but one team was a clear winner of both contests. After getting all sweaty the boys had the opportunity to go to Algebra 1 math class with the Apostolic Boys. They got a lesson and even had problems to solve at the chalk board. Some of the boys did very well and all learned something.
After Algebra class the apostolics school day was complete so the sports began. The boys got to play sports with the apostolics. After sports the boys did the housework chores with the apostolics followed by a gospel reflection. Then the boys walked around the school with the apostolics while saying their daily rosary. Then it was back to dinner with the apostolics. The dads had dinner with the priests in their teachers lounge area. It was a very excellent dinner prepared by Fr. Joseph and following dinner the priests were able to answer a lot of questions by the dads about the school.
While the dads were eating dinner the boys were off playing a special board game called Quelf with the apostolics. This is a large group dynamic board game and everybody had lots of fun. Then it was off for night prayers with the apostolics before getting cleaned up before bed. Bed time was at 9:30PM so the boys can be rested up for tomorrows visit to Notre Dame. Don't miss the next post because I am sure there will be some great pictures tomorrow!
